I set an ambitious goal for HR Gives Back this year – to raise just over $17,000 with the 365 in 365 challenge, and a total of $50,000 from corporate sponsors and other events though the year. So, I’m thrilled to report that as of today, we are at $25,650 in pledges and donations! With about 11 months left to go, I thought I’d do a quick update on how we got here and what’s up next.
I am 4.5 miles and $4,700 into my 365 challenge. I admit I’ve been struggling a bit. Most people think of tremor with PD, and that is a common symptom, but it is just one of four classic traits doctors look for when diagnosing someone. The others are muscle rigidity, slowness of movement, and gait or balance issues. Unmedicated, I have all four, but my meds do a great job with the shaking, rigidity, and speed most days. The gait issues – and for me, particularly gait hesitation – are the least responsive to any of the known meds or treatment regimens. I’m working with my doctor, physical therapist, and trainer on it, and I think we’re on to a good plan. In the meantime, if you see me stuck in a hallway, don’t hesitate to say hi!
My brother is awesome and ran 31 miles this week. He’s got a wife, three kids, a dog, and a pretty big job, and he’s doing this 1000-mile challenge too. He’s doing great, and even broke some personal records this week. You can show your support by donating here, and adding “Go Matt Go!” to your donation message.
Our sponsors came through in a big way. Some are long-time supporters, and some brand new, but all incredibly generous. There’s still time to join their ranks and plan something special at your own customer event – and you could join this great list:
Have a great week everybody, and look for me on the bike in the Aria gym!
